Life @ NUST: 13 - The Unity

So now we, the class BSCS-4A, are becoming great. Not that we weren't before but this time we are certainly reaching new heights.

We now have an official meeting place which is the Badminton Court. We all meet up their, have long and short chats, hangout around it, play around it, even dance around it. No one else bothers to stand and look, we are all on our own.

Life @ NUST: 12 - The Beginning of Unity

Finally my University life is becoming awesome. At first, I was a bit worried why I can't adjust to the people and why do people don't stick around me. But then I realized the problem is I am not making myself of that much worth to them.

Hence, I decided it is time to make them realize that I am an important part of the class and they have to take me with them. But first, I had to make a strong impression on them so they may realize my importance.

Life @ NUST: 11 - Assignment Tension

This is one of the major problems we the NUSTIANs face everyday. Right now I am sitting outside the library with one of my friend and I am totally stuck on ICT assignment...

This is so boring. We have been trying to make a formula for weightages...You might be thinking "Why not google?" Well I did that before and found the formula but it doesn't seem to fit in the place and it isn't working like I want it to be.

Life @ NUST: 10 - an accident outside the premises

To those who think I met an accident...They are totally wrong. I am perfectly fit and fine so haters may continue hating and the enemies may start crying because I am still visible on the face of the Earth.

So what happened was, yesterday night at 8, I was moving through the fast paced world on my heavy bike (Honda CD-70) towards my home when on the U-turn on main highway, I made a U-turn and was just about to accelerate when suddenly I heard a car crash behind me.

Life @ NUST: 9 - The End of Horror

Finally the OHTs ended...and finally the smile on many people faces could be seen again.

It was such a horror to prepare for the OHTs being held one after the other. For many, it was a little bit of study and full time relaxation but for people like me and some others, we were undergoing continuous 24 hours of study.

You must be thinking what about my OHTs? Well, honestly I did prepare well but got confused in almost every test. Therefore I got my marks cut down to the average but not less than that. However, I've got exceptional marks in Fundamentals of ICT and I am expecting good marks in Computer Programming and Communication Skills also, though I am sure I was confused while attempting the paper.

Life @ NUST: 8 - The First One Hour Test

The first OHT of batch 2k14 being held in SEECS building live @ 9:30; don't forget to watch the confused and tensed faces of your batchmates. Live coverage will be given on Life @ NUST...

The OHT has been quite a problem for me; not because of the fact that I have to study much, but because I was late on the very first test and the invigilator told me to stand outside for an extra 5 mins. "What did you do? What did he did?" you ask? What I did was pretty simple; I waited for the invigilator to call me in.

Life @ NUST: 7 - A Freshie's LinkedIn Account on Group Mail

This one is totally related to a freshie named "Aroona Ayub" who has recently setup a LinkedIn account on the group email ID "bscs4". If you're reading this, I would really like to meet you personally.

So what happened was, yesterday evening I was surfing on the internet as usual when a mail from LinkedIn came to my SEECS account and it said "Aroona Ayub, welcome to LinkedIn"...Then I was like "What the Hell! How can one come up with such a unique idea? She should be given a nobel prize for that"...lol seriously, I am going to give her a 10 on her unique thought.

Life @ NUST: 6 - The Dreadful [PLEASE READ AND CONFIRM] message

This is what I've been suffering from the past 2-3 days. I, along with all the students at SEECS, have been receiving [PLEASE READ AND CONFIRM] message which is some sort of test for checking whether everyone on the seecs email servers and groups is receiving mail or not.

We, the students at SEECS, are gifted with an email id which is connected to a server at NUST. All IDs are attached to different groups. For example, my ID is attached to BSCS-4A group as well as STUDENTS group so that when someone sends an email to students@seecs.edu.pk, he will be sending it to the whole campus as well as me and if he sends an email to bscs4a@seecs.edu.pk, he will be sending it to my whole class along with me.

Life @ NUST: 5 - Weekend before OHTs

OHTs stands for One Hour Tests

So here I am sitting on my bed with the laptop on my lap. Constant chatting going on facebook with friends and what do I notice? My Uni mates are online! I thought they would be studying but NO...they are all online!

Well that is something we all did in colleges as well. Papers going on and everyone using facebook till they are forced by their parents to study or they become desperate to learn and pass the exam.

Life @ NUST: 4 - Somewhat boring

Ok...so you must be thinking "Man this is a university! There is no chance of getting bored" but that's not the point. No doubt, NUST is quite amazing, vast and has quite many things to keep the boredom away. But, here I am talking about "Life @ NUST without friends"...

I am a type of person who is confident enough to talk with anybody when it comes to TALKING ABOUT A CERTAIN TOPIC. Here I see that people talk freely with each other (even with the opposite genders). They conversate starting from "Hey Buddy! Watcha doing???" and may end with "How about a Roll Paratha from C2?"...Well I like the last part. But the "Roll Paratha" part only comes when I can start a conversation and that is where I lose most of the time.

Life @ NUST: 3 - The Pre-OHT Week

Boy this week surely is tougher...We have got OHTs coming up. A full week of tests but gladly the school administration has blessed us by not conducting regular lectures during the tests. Now we have a full day to walk with books and study as hard as we can.

Still I see people who are totally in their chilling environment. They don't care about the upcoming OHTs I guess. Hanging out with buddies has always been the best thing everyone can do except for me. I don't really have friends at the moment since I am one of those who don't like to stay on a single person's side for the 4 best years of my life.

Life @ NUST: 2 - The Orientation Week of Welcome (WoW) 2K14

September 08,2014 is officially marked by me as "My First Uni Day"...I like the sound of it as I sit on my bed with the laptop on my lap and my mobile resting besides me. SEECS officials declared the first week of opening to be "Week of Welcome 2k14" (I am really impressed at how they make common words into wonderful abbreviations).

This was an exciting week. Some of us met their acquaintances, others met their close friends who they brought along, and many stayed single. Fortunately I met an acquaintance. We hardly knew each other despite the fact that we were in the same college and we had seen each other but never even said "Hi!"

Technically I met one but practically I met two because they both were twin brothers and their faces matched approx 85% so, they were "one" but they were "two"; hope you get my point.

I hung out with them. We had lunches together, we moved together, played together, passed comments, etc, etc but I was never comfortable with them because of the fact that we had some major and addictive differences and I didn't want myself to change; that is why I went single.

Who said "ragging" is not done in NUST. Ragging, a popular word, is also done in NUST. Although not as much as its done in other universities, ragging in NUST means totally checking the confidence level of a Freshie (The new 1st semester students). Now the confidence checking can be in any form; they might order you to sing a song, they might order you to shout out loud (like really really loud!), they might order you to give them a treat, or simple as that they might ask you to introduce yourself. But don't expect them to be easy; they may leave you or they may wipe the floor with you.

That being said but there is always a solution to everything...You stay the best in your confidence, they will never rag you. At least that is what I did. I have no shame in saying "I was ragged" but when I was, I was never out of confidence. I stayed firm in my conscience and people couldn't outrun me.

I am not going to tell you how I was ragged because that would spoil the whole fun for some who are planning to keep SEECS as a second home someday...

Along with the ragging, we have different societies in SEECS introducing themselves to the new batch mates by celebrating on every day of the first week. They gave us cake to eat. They held many exciting activities such as robo-fighting, balloon shaving, etc. They invited us to join their societies which we all did. Almost every society had a membership fee. Some had more than I could've thought. Others were just normal so I went with the normal part rather than being in a family full of rich burgers.

Overall the first week was really a WoW. They are no better words to say other than "Total Awesomeness". In short, I made some friends, joined a society, spent a lot of time in the cafeteria, ate, ate and then ate again till I was sure I couldn't eat any more of the happiness.

Life @ NUST: 1 - The Orientation Day

Well finally after a lot of prayers and "maghaz maari" (a word which I have replaced with "studying"), finally I am inside NUST...finally I am a NUSTIAN

The journey from college to NUST was very difficult. There were many hurdles on the way. The weather didn't want me to reach NUST Orientation on time but it didn't know who was it dealing with. Before the weather deceived me and turned the showers on, I deceived the weather and changed my dress to something very typical...Now the rains can catch me!

Now in my typical clothes, I rode towards NUST. But you would be thinking did I go to the Orientation seminar in my typical clothes? Well do you think I could do this to myself? Definitely "NO!!!"
